Iowa State Named Big 12 Conference Sports Medicine Staff of the Year
Iowa State Athletics Release:
AMES, Iowa – Implementing cutting-edge techniques with state-of-the-art facilities, the Iowa State Sports Medicine team is responsible for keeping Iowa State student-athletes healthy, strong and fit.
Led by Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine Mark Coberley, the unit employs 16 professionals whose responsibility is to ensure that Cyclone student-athletes are provided services in health and welfare in order to achieve their competitive goals.
It's this mix of outstanding caregivers and fantastic support from the Athletics Department that has allowed ISSM to win the 2020 Big 12 Sports Medicine Staff of the Year Award for the third time.
ISSM was also honored in 2007 and 2014.
"This is a huge honor for our staff," Coberley said. "It means a lot because it's voted on by our peers. We have a staff of professionals who work hard and well together, and it's great to see their efforts being honored.
"Coberley noted his staff was lauded because of their wealth of experience and their eagerness to share new concepts with others. He still has many of his staff members who were around in 2007 when they received its first Big 12 honor.
Coberley is excited for the future as he takes on a new role of overseeing athletic training, mental health and nutrition together as one unit.
"Streamlining all of these areas together, which are key to a student-athlete's development, has us heading into the right direction," Coberley added. "We will start seeing the benefits and it will be important for us as we move forward."
