Walk-on Student-Athletes

Medical Insurance

 

All non-scholarship student-athletes must provide the athletic training staff with proof of current insurance coverage in order to participate.  Any question regarding insurance issues should be addressed to the Student-Athlete Insurance Coordinator, Erin Wilson at (515) 294-2946.

New Recruited Walk-on Student-Athletes with Guaranteed Roster Spots:

​

Prior to your arrival on campus, contact your team's certified athletic trainer for more information on the exact steps and procedures to be completed prior to your participation in any Iowa State Athletics activity.

New Walk-on Tryout Student-Athletes:

 

Any student-athlete that intends to tryout for one of Iowa State's Athletic Teams must provide  the following information prior to the day of the tryout:

​

  1. Athletic Physical (Physical Form)

  2. Sickle Cell Test/Labwork Results as outlined on the Physical Form.

  3. Insurance Card

If a student-athlete is officially added to the team roster following the tryout period, the student-athlete will be required to complete all further remaining medical paperwork and will receive a formal pre-participation physical examination with the team physician arranged by the specific team athletic trainer. Upon successful completion and approval (by the team physician)  of the pre-participation physical examination, the Iowa State Athletics Compliance Office will be notified that you have been medically cleared for participation in team practices and contests.
